Three generations of the same family run this bistro, which opened in 1964 near La Bourse (the stock exchange). At lunch it’s packed with stock-exchange members. It serves la cuisine bourgeoise (comfort food). Waiters bring around bowls of appetizers, such as celery rémoulade, to get you started. You can follow with grilled turbot in a béarnaise sauce, duck breast with cèpe mushrooms, cassoulet, orpot-au-feu (beef simmered with vegetables). The sole filet with a sauce made from Pouilly wine and crème fraîche (fresh cream) is a delight.

Chez Georges, 1, Rue du Mail, 75002 Paris, tel . 01 42 60 07 11, M° Bourse, open Mo-Fri noon-2pm and 7-10pm, closed Aug and last week of Dec / reservations required

Cheese, please

The new owners have done a good job : they kept the old interior but added some practical things, as for a table with exclusive goat cheese. They are real professionals who know their products well and can help you out even if you’re into new tastes. You tell them which wine you want to drink and they add the assorted cheeses. With a baguette and some butter, you’ll have a splendid time. The shop is open until 9pm.

A Passion for Tea

Neo.T is a cosy shop where you find all things tea. They sell great teas, tableware, crumble cookies and guess what you can even taste the tea before buying it, what a service! It was here that I found some great -but unfortunately  rather expensive- jasmine tea. Furthermore, they have a large collection of different types of maté (the traditional South-American tea). The saleswoman is very helpful and friendly. Rue des Martyrs up to Montmartre is becoming a nice street with new shops, trendy boutiques and eateries.

Neo.T, 89, Rue des Martyrs, 75018 Paris, is at walking distance from the apartment Montmartre Studioloft (at the end of Av. Trudaine, at Rue des Martyrs, take right hand side – up to Montmartre)
